ABSTEMIOUS

Definition:
1. sparing or moderate in eating and drinking; temperate in diet.
2. characterized by abstinence: an abstemious life.

Origin: Abstemious derives from the Latin tēmētum meaning “intoxicating drink.” It entered English in the early 1600s.
